Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia Day 2 kicked off yesterday in full swing. Being backstage is amazing. The vibe is like no other, people running around, make up getting done, models barefoot doing a run-through as the construction men work frivoulously to finish the set, music blaring out the speakers one minute, the next, ear-bleeding noises and the music gets tuned. It really is an experience, and last night, Kym Ellery showed us how it’s done. Flying Belgian model, blogger and it-girl Hanne Gaby Odiele mere hours before the show kicked off (on a very speedy Qantas flight). I could tell model Julia Nobis was just as excited as us to see Hanne backstage. The show was styled by Romy Frydman, showcasing the twist and turns of silhouettes that made you look twice. Cuffs over stilettos and a hit of bronzed metallic here and there proved this show to be her best yet. My favourite piece was the long, sleeveless Celine-like coat Ellery presented (image above). The show closed with Rihanna demanding us to “shine bright like a diamond”. It was refreshing to see something different from Ellery, and she did shine.

Today was the first day of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia 2013, and kicking off the first day was Camilla & Marc, Aurelio Costarella and Christopher Esber. With his amazing skills, Esber has put together a superb Spring/Summer 2014 show at Carriageworks, including mirror installations and pipe work along the ceiling. Above is Australian model Julia Nobis in Christopher Esber at this morning’s show which was styled by Sunday Style fashion editor Kelly Hume.
